Every year, the McDowell Tech Advertising and Graphic Design program holds an art show at McDowell Arts Council (MACA), located at 50 S Main St, Marion, NC 28752. The dates for the 2023 show are February 22–March 28. An artists’ reception scheduled for Thursday, March 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
The purpose of the annual art show is to showcase the diverse talents of the students in the Advertising and Graphic Design program. Styles of artwork this year include screen printed posters, acrylic paintings, and digital art. The students who take classes in the Advertising and Graphics design program are equally diverse. A total of 10 students have artwork on display: Rhianna Bibb, Nina Cline, Maggie Hammond, Alvis Jackson, Steven Kendrick, Estela Mejia Mendoza, Jackson Mills, Charla Parks, Jake Robinson, and James Young . These students are a combination of traditional, online, and Career and College Promise students.
One special feature of the 2023 art show is that it is fully ADA compliant. Each piece of art is accompanied by both a written description (both English and Spanish) and a QR code. The QR code directs viewers to an online gallery with audio recordings of all of the image descriptions. The Advertising and Graphic Design program would like to offer special thanks to McDowell Tech webmaster Bill Teale who was instrumental in creating the web pages that host the image galleries with images, descriptions, and audio recordings. We’d also want to recognize and thank Silvia Martin del Campo, McDowell Tech’s LatinX Director, for doing the Spanish translations of the image descriptions.
We welcome everyone to enjoy our show, either in person or online, and we invite you to join us for the artists’ reception on Thursday, March 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm at MACA.
